Week of the Young Child

This week is the Week of the Young Child!

From April 14th to April 20th, the community is celebrating the Week of the Young Child (WOYC). This is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

So, what are we doing about it?
TOP will be sponsoring some fun activities this week. April 16th at the Tuscaloosa Public Library (Main Branch) will be the “BOOKWORM BOOGIE”. Parents will participate in a Parent Café and discuss Family Literacy for birth to age five, while childcare and Kindermusik will be provided for children ages two to five. There will be a special appearance by Miss University of Alabama!

Wednesday, April 17th from 9 am to 1 pm, TOP will partner with the Tuscaloosa Public Library with the “Preschool in the Park” at Government Plaza. There will be stories, games, and fun for ages birth to 5 years old. Bring your sack lunches, blankets, and parents for a fun time.

This week, TOP staff will also read to daycare centers in our area as we promote literacy and the joy of reading.
