Another successful event went down in history for the community of
Tuscaloosa! Saturday, June 8th was TOP's first annual Fathers in the Park. We were truly overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude that 650 people joined with us to celebrate fathers in our community. The event was held at Annette Shelby Park where families were able to
spend safe, fun, quality time with their loved ones in a fun filled day
that had many attractions ranging from bounce houses, food, carnival booths, face painting, to even playing in the
park's water fountains to keep cool. We appreciate all who helped make this event a success, and look forward to next year!

Child Abuse Prevention Month
Since 1983, April has been designated as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. All across the nation, family resource centers and other agencies are promoting programs and events to increase awareness of child abuse in the hopes of protecting children. Here at TOP, we provide parenting education and home visitation programs for families with young children. These include Parents As Teachers, Parent to Parent, No Place Like Home, and Together We Can. These programs empower families with skills and knowledge to promote healthy development.
In 1989, a grandmother in Virginia tied a blue ribbon to her car's antenna as a tribute to her 3-year-old grandson, whose life was cut short by child abuse. Her tribute caught on, and the tradition of the blue ribbon continues today. We are tying blue ribbons to recognize the part that we all play in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in our community. We also have a Pinwheel Garden and blue ribbons at Snow Hinton Park showing support for all children throughout the community. You can help too! Wear BLUE every Friday to show your support for the effort to prevent abuse and raise awareness throughout the community.

Week of the Young Child
This week is the Week of the Young Child!
From April 14th to April 20th, the community is celebrating the Week of the Young Child (WOYC). This is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
So, what are we doing about it?
TOP will be sponsoring some fun activities this week. April 16th at the Tuscaloosa Public Library (Main Branch) will be the “BOOKWORM BOOGIE”. Parents will participate in a Parent CafĂ© and discuss Family Literacy for birth to age five, while childcare and Kindermusik will be provided for children ages two to five. There will be a special appearance by Miss University of Alabama!
Wednesday, April 17th from 9 am to 1 pm, TOP will partner with the Tuscaloosa Public Library with the “Preschool in the Park” at Government Plaza. There will be stories, games, and fun for ages birth to 5 years old. Bring your sack lunches, blankets, and parents for a fun time.
This week, TOP staff will also read to daycare centers in our area as we promote literacy and the joy of reading.
